First Person Excursion Videos on Youtube

I’ve started making “first person” style excursion videos. Basically what I do is take a camera and lens combo with me as I explore a place and also get some much needed exercise. I record as normal with the camera such that you see what I see instead of the camera facing me. I try to add some commentary to the videos, which often is my opinion or comments on the equipment I’m using. I’ll try to mix things up even more in the future to make things as interesting as possible. The major benefit to these videos is that they are great motivation to get out and do things to stay healthy and just enjoy the simple things in life. The most recent video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSNnUSQ6Dlk That video was taken at Rock Cut with the 10-17mm fisheye lens and K-01 camera. It’s a great combo for videos and I’d like to use the fisheye more often for that purpose. I’m sure the fisheye look doesn’t appeal to everyone, but I personally l...

Photo Excursion: Aldeen Park with the K-5 and 55mm f1.4

I’m a bit back logged on photo excursion postings. This one was at a local parked called Aldeen that has a few interesting water retention structures as well as some nice green space. I was using the Pentax K-5 and DA* 55mm f1.4 lens. It was around sunset, so eventually auto-focus became a big challenge. In addition to that, I was using a friend’s Yongnuo flash units and RF wireless flash triggers. Here are a few images from the outing:  I’ve been making Youtube videos as well that are a bit more interesting than a few photos and some text on the site. Below is the video for this excursion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLJ_AteA3RQ

100mm f2.8 Macro and 10-17mm Fisheye Practice

Today I went out to a local park for the nice weather and to get some practice. This time I used two lenses that don’t get as much usage as some of my others. The 100mm f2.8 Macro and 10-17mm Fisheye lenses. Here are a few photos: A small photo can’t do justice to just how sharp that photo is at 100% detail. It was taken with the 100mm f2.8 macro lens. The K-5 and 100mm lens can achieve high vibrancy: A nice flat field: Bokeh is great with this lens: If you are looking for a lens to create epic feeling images, the 10-17mm Fisheye should be a contender: The 10-17 would be useful for unique one-man videos: The 10-17 has the ability to focus very close: I’m a sucker for photos like this: Not your normal architecture lens:

Graffiti

I was getting scheduled maintenance and a car oil chance. As this usually takes some time, I decided to bring the camera along so that I could walk to a park around 10 minutes from the dealership. There is a large storm water retention structure in the park that is a prime target for graffiti artists. I actually like the graffiti, but as you will see from the photos there is an added negative side effect. They leave the spray cans on the ground… Lincoln graffiti representing. Someone must really love grilled cheese sandwiches. Graffiti reflection. Spray paint trash. Rust didn’t stop there. I’d say… let the people do graffiti as it’s interesting and colorful, but they should be responsible about the trash they leave behind. It’s disrespectful on many levels.
