Q1 2025 Camera News: Canon R50V, PowerShot V1, Fuji GFX100 RF, Sigma BF & More!

It feels like there's been a flood of camera news lately! I'm covering some of the big announcements here. This is actually related to a video I'm working on right now where I was using the Canon M6 Mark II with an interesting little 10mm f/8 lens. I'll post that video review after this news recap. A discontinued Canon M6 Mark II camera with a 10mm lens attached. But speaking of Canon, let's get into their recent announcements, starting with the R50V... Canon EOS R50V Canon announced the R50V, which seems to be carrying the torch, at least in small size, after they essentially dropped the EF-M system like a rock. I kind of wish they'd been more thoughtful early on with mirrorless, but now we have the RF system, and they're adding more interesting cameras to it. Product page screenshot for the Canon EOS R50 V camera with kit lens. The R50V can come with a new kit lens, the RF-S 14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ. That PZ means it has electronic zooming, along with ima...

Photography to get even more expensive in the USA in 2025?

Update 4/23/2025: News websites reported on Fujifilm suspending shipments to the USA. I'm going to assume other camera companies are doing or considering the same thing.  Fujifilm suspending shipments to the USA. Update 4/15/2025: I'm not sure I should be saying who, but one of my affiliates said they will be dropping commissions until at least May.  Retailers are concerned. To me, this happening at least feels like a good general data point to gauge economic direction that people can add to their research.  Something most reddit users wouldn't necessarily look for or have access to. I don't want to say the specific store, but my current list of affiliates are: B&H, KEH, Acdsee, Best Buy, Walmart, Adorama, Moment, and Amazon. Only of a few of those use Impact-dot-com for their affiliate program.  I posted on reddit and someone pointed out that it could be due to the retailer using any reason to cut rates, which might be true. I'll at least say that the company s...

A Look at the Polaroid Go Generation 2 Instant Camera Kit

I recently picked up a Polaroid Go 2 instant camera kit and wanted to share my thoughts and experiences with it. In this article I cover the camera in detail. First, a quick note about this specific kit. I found this one locally at a heavy discount (you can see the sticker in the video if you are curious how much I paid), which probably means this particular bundle with the photo album and wrist strap might be discontinued or harder to find online.  I did see other kits that come with the camera and film, but maybe not these exact accessories as a bundle. If you really like the little photo album featured in the video, I did see that available as a separate purchase in black instead of red. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this look at the camera itself! It was a fun video to make.  The Polaroid Go Generation 2 Instant Camera Kit box. What's In This Kit? This kit included: The Polaroid Go 2 camera itself. Two wrist straps (one for the camera, one for the album maybe? I'm not totally su...

Optimizing my video recording setup again.

I've been working a bit on my hands-on video recording setup again. It's a simple mod, but every little change helps refine how well it works in practice. Let's take a look in this article! The packaging for three USB extension cables. The package included five hook-and-loop straps, which is always handy for cable management. There are three cables in total. You'd think 3 or 6 ties would make more sense than 5, but whatever. The hook-and-loop straps. I've been using a shorter USB extension cable to power a AA to USB battery power adapter for a microphone that I use with my camera setup.  My camera setup with a microphone, monitor, and various accessories. The connector on my old cable wasn't super long, so I was looking for something a bit longer. My Old USB 3.0 extension is much shorter than the new USB 2.0 cables. These new cables should do the trick. This will allow me to rotate the camera more freely without being restricted by the cable length. The side vie...
